Terminology Image-Based Sexual Abuse adopted in new Parliamentary Report

appg-reportA new report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Domestic Violence recommends replacing the term ‘revenge porn’ with ‘image-based sexual abuse’, as recommended in research published in the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies by Durham Professor Clare McGlynn and Professor Erika Rackley (Birmingham).

The Report notes that the ‘crime should be defined as a form of sexual abuse, and that the term ‘image-based sexual abuse’ – recently developed by Professors McGlynn and Rackley – should be adopted.’

The Report also recommends granting automatic anonymity to victim/survivors of image-based sexual abuse, as also recommended  by the research and the Centre for Gender Equality across All Media.
